Scientists have said that Santa's reindeer Rudoldf could have had a bright coloured nose if it was real.

According to researchers from Lund University, reindeer hooters looked redder in freezing temperatures, and on viewing under infrared light, it was found that their nose was not covered by fur like the rest of their body, Metro.co.uk reported.

The scientists added that the reddening was a sign that blood was being transferred from the rest of the body in order to keep them warm.

The study took place at Sweden's Zoo of Nordic Animals.
