Russell Brand considered as 'negative' impact on politics

Russell Brand has been deemed a bad influence on political debate and is seen as least positive political celebrity.

In a survey, 46 per cent people considered that Brand had a negative impact on political debate, ahead of Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson with 41 per cent and Bono with10 per cent, Stuff.co.nz reported.

The 39-year-old's most recent book, 'Revolution,' details his increasingly political position within popular culture and he has describes himself as "a twerp with minimal interaction with brilliant thinkers and uncorrupted minds."

The 'Arthur' actor said that imagining the overthrow of the current political system was the only way he could be enthused about politics.

The same survey found 13 per cent believed Brand had a positive influence on political debate, a score that saw him above Bono on 9 per cent, but also better than George Clooney, on 11 per cent, and only slightly less than Emma Watson, on 16 per cent.

The two celebrities with the most positive impact on political debate were anti-poverty campaigner Bob Geldof and actor and UN ambassador Angelina Jolie, both of whom scored 28 per cent.
