Russell Brand's 4,500-word essay on revolution in the New Statesman where he even quoted Sophocles, has met with a lot of criticism.

Historian Tim Stanley wrote in the UK Telegraph that what followed was a sequence of dumb statements that felt as if they came from the mouth of an 18-year-old politics student sitting stoned on a bean bag and trying to impress a girl into bed, the New York Post reported.

He said that when someone publishes an essay like this in a publication such as the New Statesman, they should be expected to be taken seriously - and Brand's ideas are not serious.
