A Russian aid convoy has finally cleared customs after being held up at the East Ukraine border for almost two weeks over Russia's intentions about the operation.

Some Ukrainian politicians have expressed concerns that many Russian trucks were almost empty, reports the Guardian.

Russia claims that the 270 truck convoy would bring much needed aid to the people in Eastern Ukraine where civilians have been caught in violence between pro-Russian rebels and Ukrainian forces.

The situation in Eastern Ukraine has reportedly worsened under the separatists' control.

A Russian official reportedly said that the armoured vehicles could probably be Ukrainian.
