A Russian military jet on Tuesday crashed while taking off from Russia's Hmeymim air base in Syria.

All of the crew died in the accident after they failed to eject themselves from the aircraft.

"The Su-24 plane rolled off the runway and broke up while accelerating for takeoff... The plane's crew did not have time to eject and died," the local media reported quoting a military spokesman as saying.

Technical failure could be the reason of the accident, the Ministry added.

The Sukhoi-24 attack aircraft, code-named Fencer by the NATO military alliance, is a supersonic, all-weather attack aircraft developed in the Soviet Union.

Hmeymim base has been used by Moscow to launch air strikes against opponents of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

Russia lost two other planes - a Sukhoi-33 and a MiG-29 - off the coast of Syria last year.
