Bangladesh President Abdul Hamid on Saturday administered oath of office to newly-appointed Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha.
Sinha is the 21st chief justice of the country and thr oath-taking ceremony was conducted in the Darbar hall of Bangabhaban, the official residence of the president, at 11 a.m.
Cabinet Secretary M Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan conducted the oath ceremony.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Jatiya Sangshad Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chowdhry, appellate division judges, former chief justices, ministers, high court judges, chiefs of armed forces, attorney general, senior lawyer Dr Kamal Hossain and Rafique-Ul Haq were present at the oath-taking ceremony.
The new chief justice will place wreath at the national memorial in Savar this afternoon to pay homage to the Liberation War martyrs later in the day.
Cabinet Secretary Mosharraf confirmed the news to The Daily Star.
