The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has called for a 12-hour shutdown on Friday in the Pathanamthitta district of Kerala alleging police of atrocities on Sabarimala devotees.
The party took the decision after the body of a 60-year-old Ayyappa devotee, Sivadasan, was found in the forest area of Laha.
The BJP alleged that the man died during the police action in Nilakkal on October 16 and 17.
However, the police have denied the allegations, saying that Sivadasan had contacted his family on October 19.
The Sabarimala Temple and surrounding areas witnessed a string of protests last month over the Supreme Court's decision to quash restrictions on the entry of women between the ages of 10 and 50 into the holy shrine.
As many as 3505 protestors have been arrested so far in connection with the violence that broke out in the state, while around 529 cases have been registered across the state.
According to reports, the Kerala High Court has also directed the state government to report on police action after the violent protests erupted at Sabarimala in October.
