Sachin Tendulkar's mother-in-law Annabel Mehta has devoted the past 40 years to helping the poor, hungry and neglected people of Mumbai.
The 73-year-old former social worker has been carrying on with her vital role of fighting for the rights of Maharashtra's capital city's vast population of the poor and the needy, the Mirror reported.
The founder of Apnalaya, who is married to Indian businessman Anand Mehta, has been working in the Shivaji Nagar slum which is home to more than 600,000 people and has taken a defiant stand against the authorities on behalf of the poor.
Annabel had arrived in Mumbai in 1966 and her charity has done exemplary work for disabled children in the slums and is vital to the survival of thousands of children who beg for food and sleep rough on the streets.
