BRIT Award winner Sam Smith and Oscar winner John Legend have worked together on a single to raise money for Comic Relief.

The duo have recorded a special version of Smith's 'Lay Me Down' as the official Red Nose Day single, which is exclusively on sale at Sainsbury's, and can be downloaded from iTunes, the Daily Star reported.

The 22-year-old singer will also perform with Legend on Comic Relief - Face The Funny for the first and only time, and the show will be aired live from London's Palladium.

Smith said that 'Lay Me Down' has a special place in his heart, and he was excited to perform live with "extremely talented" Legend.

He added that he had visited a Comic Relief funded project which supports the young LGBT community in London, and was "extremely proud" that his song would be raising money for such projects in the UK and across Africa.
