Samakka Saralamma jathara is Khumbha Mela of South: VP Naidu

Vice President Venkaiah Naidu and Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao (KCR) visited Medaram Jathara and paid respect to Sammaka Saralamma temple.

Naidu described Samakka Saralamma jathara as Khumbha Mela of the South.

After offering worship to the deities, the Vice-President said that his visit to the Jathara is only to bring the focus of the country to this festivity.

Praising the state government for organising the festival properly, he said that the Medaram Jathara is a symbol of Girijan culture and heritage that has been handed down for ages.

Speaking on the occasion, KCR said that permanent arrangements would be made at the place, for the convenience of devotees.

The Chief Minister said that nearly 1.5 crore devotees visit Medaram biennially to worship the tribal deities.

"Therefore, the government is planning to set up a permanent structure to ensure a congenial environment for peaceful worship and security for devotees for which lands and funds worth Rs 200 crore would be provided," KCR said.

The government expects more than one crore people will visit this Tribal Jathara this time.

During last time and this time Telangana government has spent total 240 crores for the better arrangements to the pilgrims.
