Same-sex marriage set to become legal in UK following Parliament 'nod'

Same-sex marriage bill has been passed in the House of Commons, paving the way for the first gay weddings in England and Wales to take place by next summer.

Earlier on Monday, the House of Lords had given its consent to gay marriage bill and the lawmakers had to review government amendments before it becomes law.

BBC reports that the government legislation is now due to get royal assent after which it will become a law.

According to the report, the bill received full support from the Conservative, Labour and Liberal Democrat leaderships.

The changes suggested by the Lords were quite influential that includes providing protection for transgender couples and eliminating any difference in the treatment of gay couples when it came to pension schemes.
