Samsung acquires home automation startup company SmartThings

The South Korean multinational conglomerate Samsung has acquired a two year old startup company SmartThings that makes smart home controllers.

The South Korean giant reportedly paid 200 million dollars to takeover SmartThings that employs 55 people in Washington, DC, San Francisco and Minnesota.

SmartThings would enable Samsung to expand the reach and capabilities of its home automation, report the Verge.

Although Samsung's current appliances can communicate with each other but SmartThings is set to make it grow bigger.

SmartThings CEO said in a statement that Samsung would help them attract more makers and developers.
