Japanese filmmaker Hirokazu Kore-eda will become the first Asian to be conferred with this year's Donostia Award at Spain's San Sebastian Film Festival.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, he competed four times at the film festival's official selection and won two audience awards.
The Donostia Award will be conferred to Kore-eda because of his contribution to films.
"Hirokazu Kore-eda has always been one of the filmmakers most loved by spectators at the San Sebastian festival, who appreciate the sensitivity of stories capable of crossing geographical and cultural borders to talk to us about universal values," Hollywood reporter quoted the festival organizers as saying.
"That's why both Like Father, Like Son and Our Little Sister carried off the audience award in San Sebastian." the organizers added.
Earlier this year, he received the coveted Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival for his film- 'Shoplifters'.
The 66th edition of the San Sebastian Film Festival will be held from September 21-29.
