Sri Lankan player Kumar Sangakkara has said that his decision to play for Kandurata Maroons in the Champions League, over the IPL franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad, was not influenced by Sri Lanka Cricket and blamed officials for mishandling the situation.

According to Sri Lankan cricket web site Island Cricket, Sangakkara expressed that the lack of communication from SLC is what led to the confusion.

The cricketer told the site that upon his return from the West Indies, SLC had asked him to play for his home side Kandurata, and he had asked them to come to an agreement with the IPL and the Sunrisers.

The former Sri Lankan captain criticised the cricket board for failing to take any decisive action on the matter, which in turn placed the onus on him, the report said.

Sangakkara said that money was not the reason why he was playing for Kandurata, and that it was a personal choice.

The Champions League is scheduled to start on September 17 in Hyderabad and the Kandurata Maroons are the only Sri Lankan side represented in the tournament, the report added.
