Sania Mirza receives Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award

Sania Mirza on Friday was awarded the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award for becoming the No. 1 player in the World for Women's doubles in Tennis after winning the Women's doubles title in Wimbeldon. She was given the award by the President of India, Pranab Mukherjee.

President Mukherjee presented the Sports and Adventure Awards at a function held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Naval Singh received the Dronachaya Award in recognition of his outstanding achievements in the field of coaching in the discipline of Para-sports. He has coached prominent sports people like Amit Saroha (Arjuna Awardee), Deepa Malik (Arjuna Awardee) and Karam Jyoti.

Anoop Singh received the Dronachaya Award in recognition of his achievements in the field of coaching in the discipline of Wrestling. Prominent among his trainees are Sushil Kumar, Yogeshwar Dutt, Geetika Jakhar and Neha Rathi.

Harbans Singh is Master of Sports (Athletics) from Germany. He received the Dronachaya Award in recognition of his achievements in the field of coaching in the discipline of Athletics.

Nihar Ameen is a level 5 American Swimming Coaches Association accredited coach. He received the Dronachaya Award in recognition of his achievements in the field of coaching in the discipline of Swimming. He has coached 1992 and 1996 Olympic Gold medalists namely Joel Thomas and Sheila Taromina.

Naib Subedar Sandeep Kumar received the Arjuna Award for excellence in Archery. He won a team gold medal in Asian Games at Incheon in 2014. He also won a team gold medal and individual Silver in Asian Championship at Chinese Taipei in 2013.

M. R. Poovamma, in recognition of her outstanding achievements in Athletics, received the Arjuna Award. She won the gold medal 4X400 meters relay in Asian Games 2014 at Incheon with record breaking performance.

Kidambi Srikanth Nammalwar received the Arjuna Award. He was ranked 3rd in the World as on August 13, 2015.

Mandeep Jangra was presented the Arjuna Award for his excellence in the discipline of Boxing.

Rohit Sharma, the only batsmen in the world to have scored two double centuries in One day internationals, received the Arjuna Award. He however could not attend the ceremony.

These were few of the star players to receive the awards for excellence in their respective fields.
