Saudi lauds PM Modi's International Solar Alliance initiative

Saudi Arabia on Sunday expressed appreciation towards the initiative taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi leading to the formation of International Solar Alliance and acknowledged the importance of this alliance in advancing new solar technologies worldwide.

In a joint statement issued by Prime Minister Modi and Saudi Arabia's King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud following their bilateral talks, both leaders emphasized the importance of continued promotion of scientific and technological collaboration, including in the areas of renewable energy including solar, Information and Communication technology, space technology, sustainable development, arid agriculture, desert ecology, urban development, healthcare and bio-technology.

Recognizing the vibrant people to people contacts that provided strong bonds between the two countries, the two leaders also lauded the valuable role of the Indian community in Saudi Arabia and its contribution to the progress and development of both India and Saudi Arabia.

Welcoming the signing of an agreement on labour cooperation for recruitment of General Category Workers, Both sides also agreed to the establishment of a Joint Working Group on Consular issues under the umbrella of the India-Saudi Arabia Joint Commission to discuss consular issues on a regular basis.

Meanwhile, Saudi King Al Saud today accepted Prime Minister Modi's invitation to pay an official visit to India at a mutually convenient time.

In the final call on before his departure, the Prime Minister met the Deputy Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia Mohammad bin Salman Al Saud.
