The Supreme Court today issued notice to Uttarakhand and six other states for their alleged failure in implementing the Disaster Management Act in order to handle natural catastrophe.
An apex bench headed by Justice A.K. Patnaik sought response from the Central Government, the states and the Union Territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands on a PIL alleging that the various governments have failed in implementing in true spirit the act that was passed in 2005.
The six other states that were issued notice by the apex court are Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, West Bengal and Gujarat.
