The Supreme Court today issued notices to the central and the state governments regarding the treatment and rehabilitation of acid attack victims following a petition filed in the apex court.

A Bangalore based network called Campaign and Struggle Against Acid Attacks on Women has provided the data to the Supreme Court about the dismal state of rehabilitation of acid attack victims.

The SC has fixed an interim compensation of Rs 3 lakhs for women who survive acid attacks.

Lawyer Colin Gonsalves, told ANI, "After Laxmi filed a case about the regulating the sale of acid, another petition has been filed in the SC which focuses on the rehabilitation of the acid attack victims. These victims generally need to go through 10 operations on an average which costs at least Rs 10 Lakhs. They are demanding an increase in the compensatory amount, which is miminum Rs 3 lakh right now."

"Free medical treatment and treatment by private hospitals are also demanded by victims. There is no protocol right now for their treatment, which also includes first aid brochures and guidelines. That is why there is a new petition for treatment and rehabilitation of acid attack victims.
