The Supreme Court has put the Bombay High Court's order on the 'Dahi Handi' festival on hold. On Wednesday, a petition was filed in the Supreme Court challenging the High court's order on Dahi Handi celebrations.

Supreme Court lawyer Shivaji Jadhav said, "The Supreme Court has suspended the ruling by the Bombay High Court: that youths below 18 years of age cannot participate in 'Dahi Handi'."

He also said, "Now the age limit has been reduced to 12 years and the restriction on height of human pyramid has also been removed. However, the safety guidelines prescribed by the state commission will continue".

On Monday, the Bombay High Court had ruled that the height of the human pyramid cannot be more than 20 feet and children under 18 years cannot take part in the festival.

Every year, hundreds of youth perform the ritual of 'Dahi Handi during the festival of Janmashtami. 'Dahi Handi' involves making a human pyramid and breaking an earthen pot filled with buttermilk tied at a height.
