Senior leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) met president Pranab Mukherjee and demanded the dismissal of Delhi state chief, Shiela Dikshit after the state ombudsman indicted her in case of swindling of public funds.

The leaders' main demand was that a fair probe should be undertaken against all the charges, which were levelled against Chief of Delhi Shiela Dikshit.

"Earlier the Shunglu Committee (committee formed to probe Commonwealth games scam ), CVC (central vigilance commission), CAG (comptroller and auditor general) all these have also levelled serious charges on chief of Delhi Shiela Dikshit but because of her position she easily gets away from all this. So strict action should be taken," said BJP Leader, Vijay Kumar Malhotra.

The Central Bureau of Investigation had leveled charges of cheating in tenders for timing equipment worth millions of dollars in the Commonwealth games.

The $6 billion event was billed as India's answer to the 2008 Beijing Olympics, but descended into rows over leaking stadiums, filthy athletes' rooms and corruption scandals.

He added that the president should also listen to the provincial ombudsman rather than merely listening to what the interior ministry or the Delhi government had said.

"We have also urged the president that instead of just listening to the interior ministry and the government of Delhi, he should also call the state ombudsman and listen to him as well. The state ombudsman has said that why was my recommendation discarded and he was not told about it. He also said that the president was misguided. So we asked him to take care of it and he replied that he will take into account all our points and will also think upon it," said Malhotra.

Delhi will go to polls later this year, with Dikshit seeking a fourth consecutive term.
