The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday took a jibe at the JD(U)-RJD grand alliance and said that Mohammad Shahabuddin's statement on Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has affected the relations between the two political outfits.

BJP leader Nand Kishore said that if relations between the outfit had been good, then they would have sorted the matter internally.

"If Shahabuddin is not a matter of concern then why did the party issue a show cause notice against Girdhari Yadav who met Shahabuddin. Leaders of JD(U) are doing a drama and they are tensed. If you see the press conference, then you may notice that the whole time they were blaming RJD," said Kishore.

"I have said this before that JD (U) and RJD have a very sour relationship. And this sour relationship has become evident. If these two parties had good relations then they would surely have discussed the matter internally and solved it," he added.

JD(U) yesterday strongly reacted to the comments of Mohammad Shahabuddin on Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

The party also appealed to the RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav to enforce the code of 'gatbandhan dharma (coalition principles)' among his partymen.

Shahabuddin's last week said that Nitish Kumar became the Bihar chief minister due to "circumstances".

However, Nitish responded saying that he had been chosen by the people of Bihar and he 'did not care' about the comments made by anyone else.

Shahabuddin had been sent to jail in November 2005 in connection with the murder of Rajiv Ranjan, a prime witness in the murder of his two brothers Girish Raj and Satish Raj. The brothers had been murdered in Siwan in August 2004.
