Former New Zealand fast bowler Shane Bond has slammed the dead and flat wickets in domestic and Test pitches, saying that they did nothing to promote the New Zealand's game and lift its miserly Test ranking.

According to Stuff.co.nz, the current New Zealand bowling coach has pleaded for spicy, bowler-friendly test wickets this winter and wants the pitches to offer more for the bowlers.

Stating that bowler-friendly wickets need a bit of life, Bond said that when a team is near the bottom of the rankings like New Zealand is, it needs wins, adding that New Zealand curators should produce wickets like the Gabba in Australia and failing them, should still refrain from 'boring' decks.

Bond also said that the pitches should be started with plenty of movement and then flattened out or they should be started good for batting then broken up later to help the spinners, adding that a pitch where runs are scored is not necessarily a good Test or domestic wicket.

The report mentioned that the University Oval, which hosts the first home test of the summer, against the West Indies next week, has produced two docile wickets the last two seasons and two draws against South Africa and England.
