Former Congress leader Shankersinh Vaghela on Tuesday joined 'Jan Vikalp Morcha', a party formed by his supporters.
According to reports, Vaghela said he has extended his support to the Jan Vikalp, calling it just a front, not a political party.
Addressing a press conference here, Vaghela said that the new front will not be a political party, but "an alternative force" to garner public anger against the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the "ineffective" Congress party.
He said that his approach to the front will be positive, adding that he would not criticise Prime Minister Narendra Modi or BJP president Amit Shah, but the government in the state. Similarly, he would not criticise Congress president Sonia Gandhi.
Vaghela, who had engineered a revolt of sorts in the opposition Congress last month, said the people were fed up with the BJP and the Congress and were desperate for an alternative.
Earlier in July, Vaghela resigned as the Leader of Opposition in the Gujarat Assembly and sent his letter of resignation to Congress president Sonia Gandhi.
