Highlighting the 'growing intolerance' in the country, Janata Dal (United) chief Sharad Yadav on Thursday alleged that politics over cow would not help the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Bihar.
"They won't win the election this time in the name of the cow rather they would have to face a humiliating defeat. Arun Jaitley says there is tolerance in this country but what kind of tolerance is this that you are declaring Shah Rukh Khan a Pakistani. Your general secretary says this and you are saying that your party has no role in it," Yadav told the media here.
"This has become their habit, first they comment and later they retract stating this is not the party's stand. Yogi Adityanath is saying that he (SRK) is no less than Hafiz Sayeed. This is so regretful that he is comparing an actor with India's most wanted terrorist Hafiz Sayeed just because he is a Muslim," he added.
The Election Commission had yeaterday issued a notice to the BJP seeking explanation over their newspaper advertisement on beef.
The poll body has directed that no advertisements shall be published in the poll-bound Bihar unless its contents were ratified by the Media Certification and Monitoring Committee (MCMC) at the state and district level.
The Election Commission's directions came after the BJP gave an advertisement in newspapers featuring a woman hugging a cow, attacking Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on his silence over statements made by his allies on beef.
Meanwhile, 24.29 percent polling has been recorded till 11am in the fifth and final phase of the Bihar Assembly polls for 57 seats spread across nine districts.
