Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas and Co. provided legal and strategic advice to HP Inc. (HP) from a competition law perspective in relation to its proposed acquisition of the global printer business of Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd.
This was the first time that the Competition Commission of India (CCI) was assessing a transaction in the printer segment. The Firm has been able to secure CCI approval for the transaction on 28 April 2017.
The Competition Law practice of Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co. (SAM & Co.) was involved in preparing, drafting and filing a detailed Form II (long form) notification form with the CCI and all related responses and submissions in relation to the proposed acquisition.
The Team was led by Naval Satarawala Chopra, Partner; and Aparna Mehra, Partner; and included Ritwik Bhattacharya, Associate; Supritha Prodaturi, Associate and Sapan Parekh, Associate.
As a part of the review, the CCI examined various aspects relating to the scope of the relevant product market and third party concerns on the transaction, which SAM & Co. was able to effectively address.
The firm secured an approval from the CCI to the proposed acquisition, after a detailed review that spanned approximately 170 calendar days.
