Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Friday chaired a high-level meeting on internal security and regional issues with senior civil and military officials, including Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif, in attendance.
According to The Dawn, Director General Inter-Services Intelligence Lieutenant Gen Rizwan Akhtar, National Security Adviser Lt Gen Nasser Khan Janjua, Adviser to the PM on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar and Finance Minister Ishaq Dar also attended the meeting.
Pakistan hosted the 'Heart of Asia' conference earlier in the month in Islamabad which aimed at promoting regional cooperation for improving connectivity and tackling security threats.
Speaking at the conference, Afghan President Ashraf Ghani had said that Pakistan's operations against militancy had "created unintended consequences, bringing about the displacement of a significant number of these [militant] groups onto our soil".
