The Islamabad High Court on Wednesday accepted a petition filed by former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif that sought an earliest possible date for a scheduled hearing in the Al-Azizia Steel Mills corruption reference verdict.
A two-member divisional bench comprising Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani heard Sharif's plea and directed the registrar's office to hear the matter within 10 days, Geo News reported.
On Tuesday, Sharif filed a plea against the verdict in the Islamabad High Court and sought a suspension of the sentence granted to him.
Sharif was sentenced to seven years in prison by an accountability court in the Al-Azizia reference on December 24 last year. Furthermore, he was fined USD 2.5 million.
