Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has urged the US to back his country in the long-standing dispute with India, a day after talks with US President Barack Obama.

According to The Dawn, Sharif made it clear that his top priority was seeking international support to compel India to hold talks on the future of Kashmir.

Sharif also accused India of escalating ceasefire violations along the Line of Control (LoC) and Working Boundary.

In an address to the US Institute for Peace, he said that India was engaged in a major arms buildup with the assistance of several powers.

He also said that India had adopted various military doctrines that would compel Pakistan to take countermeasures to preserve credible deterrence.
