The Shawl Club India, an association of Woolmark shawl licensees in India, today extended its support to all the upcoming functions, being earmarked to celebrate the 436th Amritsar Foundation Day, being observed by the U.S.-based EcoSikh Organization with the help of local bodies, here on July 6.
The club's general secretary, Piara Lal Seth, said in a press statement here that they were delighted that Amritsar, established in 1577 by Guru Ram Das, was celebrating its annual foundation day on such a large scale.
He also said that Amritsar is also known as the "City of Shawls".
Seth said they would be extending the industry's full cooperation to the cause.
"We have spoken to Gunbir Singh ji for the annual event, and together, we would make the event a huge success," said Seth.
He said it was a matter of proud that the holy city would be witnessing the huge celebrations this time and the event was being observed to bring in the focus of environmental concerns relating the city.

"The environmental concerns relating the holy city must be in the focus and we want that the rich cultural heritage and historical sites in the city are preserved," said he.
He said it was the wisdom of the Gurus that the city was founded as great centre of faith and religion, but it was reeling under degradation of all the elements of nature today.
He stated that the motto for the citizens and the friends of this Holy City, "Amritsar-My City, My Pride, My Responsibility!," is to take ownership of their city and thus join in wholeheartedly to improve it.
