"One angle of the murder case which came out yesterday that the lady (Indrani) was raped by her step father and the child (Sheena) was an outcome of this rape. As a result, she was trying to hide the fact the Sheena is her daughter. If at all it is true, then this is very unfortunate and this is happening very much in society. Sexual violence is happening by close relatives, and this issue needs to be addressed," Shafiq told ANI.
Pointing out that honour killing could be another possible reason in the sensational murder case, Shafiq said,"another thing which is coming out through media reports is of honour killing. If it is a case of honour killing then we can say that it is not just limited to rural areas but is very much in the modern families as well."
Indrani was arrested by Khar police on August 25 in connection with the murder case. She was later produced before the Bandra court, which remanded her in police custody till August 31.
Her driver was also arrested on August 25 and during interrogation, he claimed that Indrani had killed Sheena and that he had helped her in disposing of the body by dumping it in the forests of Raigad district.
