Pakistan flamboyant opener Ahmed Shehzad has insisted that he was confident about staging an international comeback after being sidelined from the national squad for the ongoing Asia Cup and next month's World Twenty20 in India.

The 24-year-old failed to grab selectors' attention and was overlooked for the T20 format's pinnacle event despite accumulating a solid 290 runs in his 10 appearances in the recently-concluded Pakistan Super League.

While speaking to a local news channel, Shehzad opined that he was dropped from the squad for reasons 'other than his performances', arguing that he should have been selected if performance was the only criteria, the Dawn reported.

The Lahore-born batsman, however, has been struggling in the shortest format of the game in the international circuit, making a below-average 160 in his last 10 appearances for his nation.

Extending his best wishes for his side for the World T20, Shehzad also took a jibe at the selectors by urging them to keep a player's 'ability' in mind before picking a squad.
