American singer and actress Sheryl Crow had reportedly told investigators that she was with disgraced cyclist Lance Armstrong when he was receiving an illicit blood transfusion.

A new book, called the 'Wheelmen: Lance Armstrong, the Tour de France and the Greatest Sports Conspiracy Ever', claims that Crow, then dating Armstrong, had accompanied the former cyclist in his private jet for a transfusion procedure in 2004.

According to the New York Daily News, the book mentioned that instead of hiding the transfusion from Crow, Armstrong was completely open about it as he trusted that Crow would not tell anyone about the team's doping program, adding that he explained that it was simply part of the sport and was done by every cyclist.

The report mentioned that Crow and Armstrong were briefly engaged before their split in 2006, following which, in 2011, Crow spoke with federal investigators launching the criminal probe that hastened Armstrong's downfall.

The book also said that Crow spilled the beans on Armstrong after she was assured of a proffer agreement, a document that protects witnesses from criminal prosecution if they cooperate honestly.

The report further said that blood transfusions allow athletes to increase the number of oxygen-carrying red blood cells in their bodies, boosting endurance potential without using drugs.
