Republican Party of India (RPI) president Ramdas Athawale said here on Thursday that the BJP and Shiv Sena should not break their alliance, but if they do part ways then his party will see whether they should support the BJP or the Sena, or take some other decision.
"Both the BJP as well as the Shiv Sena need to stay together if they want to highlight the faults of Nationalist Congress Party and the Congress to the people. But I think the fight is a big mistake and if BJP and Shiv Sena decide to fight alone then RPI will decide whether to be with Shiv Sena or BJP or take some other decision," said Athawale.
He also said that if BJP and Shiv Sena fight separately then they might not get more seats as compared to the Congress and the NCP.
Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh also said on Thursday that talks are still on over the alliance and seat sharing issue between the Shiv Sena and the BJP.
The ongoing spar between the BJP and Shiv Sena over seat-sharing for the Maharashtra Assembly polls has still not been resolved, with Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray saying earlier on Tuesday that he was not harbouring chief ministerial ambitions.
Maharashtra will go to polls on October 15 while the counting of votes will take place on October 18. There are 288 assembly seats in Maharashtra.
