The Shiv Sena on Saturday condemned the ink attack by their own party members on Right to Information (RTI) activist RTI activist Mallikarjun Bhaikatti and sacked those involved in the assault.
"Heard of the unfortunate incident in Latur. The Party strongly condemns the disgraceful act. Those involved have been removed from the Party," Shiv Sena youth wing chief Aditya Thackeray tweeted.
Bhaikatti, had filed an RTI against Latur's Rajshree Shahu College, and also held a press conference recently in this regard.
This had reportedly irked Shiv Sena workers, who took Bhaikatti to the same college and beat him up in front of college students and smeared his face with ink.
The move comes after the Shiv Sena has been slammed across the nation for rising cases of intolerant behaviour.
On October 12, ahead of the launch of a book written by former Pakistan Foreign Minister Khurshid Kasuri, Shiv Sena activists attacked Sudheendra Kulkarni, former BJP leader and aide to former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
On October 19, Jammu and Kashmir Independent lawmaker of Engineer Rashid was attacked with ink at the Delhi Press Club after his critical comments regarding the lynching of a Kashmiri truck driver for alleged cow killing.
