The defense counsel representing Shrien Dewani in Anni Dewani murder case has claimed that the real intention of Anni's killers was kidnap and ransom.
Defence Counsel Francois van Zyl claimed that the two men, who hijacked the taxi in which the victim and her husband were travelling, intended to release the husband, rape the bride and demand a ransom later on, reported The Guardian.
Van Zyl also claimed that the bullet that killed the 28-year-old had been discharged accidentally.
Dewani has been accused of orchestrating the murder of his wife during their honeymoon in Cape Town by hiring three South Africans. Qwabe is one of the three men.
Dewani has denied the charges claiming that the two were hijacked at gunpoint as they drove through Gugulethu in a taxi.
He escaped unharmed but his wife's body was found in the abandoned car the next day.
