Australian out-of-favour paceman Peter Siddle has said that he would essentially play in the upcoming Test series against West Indies in order to cement his place in the squad.

The 31-year-old, who bagged his 200th Test wicket in the historic day-night Test at Adelaide Oval, remained in and out of the squad since the past 12 months.

Siddle admitted that the upcoming series would be a good opportunity for him, adding that he needs to perform well against the visitors, Sport24 reported.

The pacer also expressed his views on Australian selectors' new policy to opt for the bowlers, who can bowl above 140 kmph.

He insisted that Adelaide's man of the match Josh Hazlewood had also struggled to reach the required speed which means that lacking speed was not a big deal.

Siddle added that the performance entirely depends upon skills and going well with the conditions.

Australia will play a three-match Test series against West Indies, starting from December 10 in Hobart.
