Significant increase in pace of road construction since BJP came to power: Gadkari

Highlighting the achievements of his ministery since assuming office, Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has said that the speed of construction of roads has risen from two kilometres per day to twenty kilometres per day since the Bharatiya Janata party (BJP)-led government came to power.

In an exclusive interview to ETV News head Jagdeesh Chandra, Gadkari said that the target road construction speed they are looking at is 30 kilometres per day

"Earlier, only two kilometres of roads were laid per day. Now, this has come up to twenty kilometres per day. By May 26, when we will complete two years in the ministry, we have kept a target of 30 kilometres per day," he said in ETV's popular 'The J C Show'.

"Though, we can't achieve that target, but, we will reach to twenty five kilometers target. For next year, our target is forty kilometres per day," he added.

He also gave out details of government's elaborate plans to invest in Rajasthan, with Rs. sixty thousand crores expected to be spent on the state in the next two-years.

"In these years, we have signed works worth 1.5 lakh crore rupees, which includes nearly forty thousand crores in Rajasthan only. Will give projects worth sixty thousand crores in two years for Rajasthan. We will fund nearly one lakh crore rupees for Rajasthan in Five years. This excludes, the inland waterways and dry ports. By completion of two years of my tenure, we will have 2.5 lakh crore worth projects by two ministries that comes under me," he said.

"On third year, itself we have a target of three lakh crore worth projects in one year. There is no dearth of fund, we need people who can work on that pace," he added.
