The Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC) has reportedly acquired a significant lead in the West Bengal Panchayat polls.
According to television channel reports, the TMC is leading in 801 gram panchayat seats. Final results are expected later this evening.
Currently, the TMC is leading in Bardhaman with 117 seats, East Mednipur with 83 seats and Hoogly with 62 seats.
Murshidabad, though, tells a different story as the Congress is presently leading in 51 seats, followed by the Left Front who is leading in 37 seats. The TMC in Murshidabad has managed to lead only in 8 seats.
The Left front is leading in Malda and Jalpaiguri.
As per a Supreme Court directive the five-phase Panchayat polls were held on July 11, 15, 19, 22 and 25.
