A Sikh real estate agent has claimed to have been left 'embarrassed' after he was barred entry from a club in South Auckland for wearing a turban.

According to Stuff.co.nz, 30-year-old Gurpreet Singh, who works at Ray White Papatoetoe in South Auckland, has lodged a complaint of religious discrimination with the Human Rights Commission.

Singh and his workmate had tried to explain to club staff that the turban was part of his faith and not something he could take off.

However, the staff refused to let them enter as their policy did not allow any headwear.

Manurewa Cosmopolitan Club President John Stevens denied that their club was discriminating against any religion and said that the club has a standard rule in place for the last 50 years.
