The Sikkim Government will set up a 300 Metric Tonne Bio-Fertilizer Plant in the State to cater to the need of the farmers. Besides, Cold Storage will be constructed in every Gram Panchayat to prevent decay of the Organic produce.
Chief Minister Pawan Chamling announced it at an official meeting in Gangtok last evening.
Chamling also announced establishment of Marketing Centre and Auction House for the Organic Produce in the State. He assured that stricter laws will be added to the existing laws with regard to the organic farming.
The Sikkim Government has already banned the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides in the State. Those found guilty are liable to both fine and imprisonment. Two check-posts have been set up at Rangpo and Melli, at Sikkim -West Bengal border, to check the entry of these. Sikkim is expected to be declared as the country's first fully organic state during Prime Minster Narendra Modi's proposed visit to the state next month.
