Romanian tennis player Simona Halep has surged back into the world's top three after defeating Madison Keys in straight sets in the Rogers Cup final in Montreal.
Halep swept aside her American opponent 7-6 (7-2), 6-3 to climb up by two places from fifth, with only Angelique Kerber and Serena Williams now above her, Sport24 reported.
Meanwhile, world number one Williams remains on top with 8,300 points and maintains a comfortable advantage of 1,555 points despite pulling out of the Canadian tournament with a shoulder injury.
Keys, on the other hand, has moved back into the top 10 at a joint career-high ranking of ninth after reaching his first-ever final in a hard-court competition.
