Singapore Foreign Minister K. Shanmugam today visited Nalanda university, as part of a working visit to India.
Saying that the Nalanda center is one that many Singaporeans have been involved in, Shanmugam said, "It is a great center of learning. People from all over the world come here. Singaporeans have also contributed to it. It's part of a wider engagement with East Asia."
Shanmugam added that his intention of visiting the ancient university was because it attracts a lot of interest in Singapore. "Also, I have come to see how we can continue to play a role," Shanmugam said.
According to reports, the Foreign Minister will be in the country from July 28- 30 and is expected to meet Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, on Tuesday.
During his visit, he is also expected to be in New Delhi where he will meet Minister of External Affairs Salman Khurshid, as well as the National Security Advisor Shivshankar Menon. Shanmugam will deliver the inaugural speech of the ASEAN-India Centre on July 30.
