Indian shuttler Kidambi Srikanth on Friday joined his compatriot B Sai Praneeth to sail into the men's singles semi-final of the Singapore Open Superseries after registering a stunning victory against World No. 8 Shi Yuqi of China.
Unseeded Srikanth outplayed fifth seeded Yuqi 21-14, 21-16 to set up a semifinal clash with Anthony Sinisuka Ginting of Indonesia, who had beaten Sourabh Verma early in the tournament.
In another quarter-final match, Praneeth defeated eigth seeded Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk of Thailand 15-21, 21-14, 21-19.
However, Olympic silver medallist PV Sindhu suffered a crushing quarterfinal loss to arch-rival Carolina Marin in the women's single's quarter-final clash.
Sindhu, current World No. 5, went down 11-21, 15-21 against Marin.
India also lost the mixed doubles quarter-final match when third seeded Chinese pair of Lu Kai and Huang Yaqiong defeated the pair of B. Sumeeth Reddy and Ashwini Ponnappa 21-11, 21-8.
