Visakhapatnam's additional Deputy Commissioner of Police on Thursday informed that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to probe the attack on Yuvajana Shramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) Chief Jagan Mohan Reddy inside the airport terminal.
Mahendra Patrudu, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP), Visakhapatnam told ANI, "The accused who was working in Airport canteen attacked Reddy with a small knife which is used in the cockfight. The case was registered based on the report by CISF and it is under investigation. Director General of Police (DGP) has ordered for special investigation team (SIT) having an ACP and 2 inspectors to investigate this case. SIT will enquire this case will produce more details after an investigation of SIT. How he carried a weapon inside the Airport has to be established."
Patrudu further informed that a letter has been recovered from the accused and content of same would be examined as part of the probe.
"The CISF also got a letter from his pocket. The investigating team will be taking that letter from CISF and will examine that letter. The case has been registered under section 307," he said.
Meanwhile, G Prakash Reddy, Airport Director, Vishakapatnam airport also issued a statement and said that the police have inspected the site of the incident and the security has been increased on the city side.
Further asserting that necessary precautionary measures have been taken to prevent any untoward incident, Reddy informed that the situation is under control and all operations are normal.
In the wake of the attack on Jagan Reddy, YSRCP supporters were seen staging a protest outside the Visakhapatnam airport, where a canteen boy stabbed the party chief with a sharp object earlier on Thursday.
