Amidst the ongoing tension in the Kashmir Valley post the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen militant Burhan Wani on July 8, the Sher e-Kashmir University of Agriculture Science and Technology (SKUAST) is playing a vital role in giving a boost to the agriculture sector in the valley.
Agriculture, like the tourism industry, is considered the backbone of Kashmir, and the SKUAST is working hard to strengthen the sector.
In the Kashmir Valley, a majority of the population is involved in agriculture, but at this time, the space for agriculture and horticulture is shrinking due to the commercial and non-commercial construction. This in turn is resulting in a drop in the production of crops and fruit.
The SKUAST has introduced new varieties of crop seeds and plants with the latest technologies to increase production on the land available for cultivation.
For last few years, university scientists have been organizing several seminars and workshops to make farmers and growers aware of new technologies and crop varieties.
People involved with horticulture, sericulture, floriculture, apiculture, fisheries and animal husbandry and all theses wings of agriculture sector is developing day by day with the help of the SKUAST.
Young and progressive growers coming out with positive approach towards agriculture sector and reason is new technologies, varieties and full supports of this prestigious agriculture university.
