After an euphoric win over South Africa in the World Cup semifinal, New Zealand head coach Mike Hesson believes that Brendon McCullum's men deserve a day off to 'stop and smell the roses' before they begin their practice in earnest for the tournament decider on Sunday.

New Zealand advanced to their first World Cup final after defeating South Africa by four wickets in a nail-biting semifinal tie at Eden Park.

Hesson said that they got back to the hotel pretty late and he was pretty wired, adding that it was still about letting it sink in.

Hesson maintained that when one achieves something as special as they had done, one doesn't want to park it too quickly, adding that one has got to allow oneself the opportunity to stop and smell the roses, Stuff.co.nz reported.

Hesson admitted that they would enjoy the moment and would turn out their attention to the final on Wednesday.
