'Smart Cities in India will certainly encourage lot of foreign interest': Bhartiya Group Executive Director

Executive Director of the Bharatiya Group, Shailesh Pathak, on Sunday said that smart cities in India would certainly encourage a lot of foreign interest.

"Smart Cities in India opportunity will certainly encourage a lot of foreign interest. After a long time, I have seen the government getting serious about cities. Initially everyone thought that smart means with digital technology and censors but it has to be good for the citizens doesn't matter what operating systems they have," said Pathak.

"Private sector is looking for opportunities all the time but Indian cities need to evolve into much better cities. There are only nine cities in the U.S that are a million plus and there are 50 cities I India that are million plus, and the amount of work in urbanization that happens in the U.S. is much higher," he added.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended a round table conference with German CEOs earlier on Sunday, where he also met President of Voith, Dr.Hubert Lienhard and President of Bombardier Transportation, Lutz Bertling.

Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin shared details about the Prime Minister's meeting via twitter.

"Movers and shakers of German economy/industry meet with PM @narendramodi," he tweeted.

"Business is 1st in order of priority. PM @narendramodi assisted by @CimGOI engages with German business leaders," he added.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Hannover, earlier on Sunday, the second leg of his three-nation, nine-day tour, after concluding a successful visit to France.

During his visit to Germany, Prime Minister Modi will be present at the opening ceremony of the 2015 edition of the Hannover Messe business fair, for which India is the partner country.

He will later unveil a bust of Mahatma Gandhi in Hannover, before holding talks with German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
