Rival skippers Steve Smith and Brendon McCullum heaped praise for the game's first ever day-night Test, after the match at the Adelaide Oval lived up to its much-hyped billing.

The first Test to be played under lights in the 138-year history, which saw the pink ball dominating the bat as thirty-seven wickets tumbled in three days, was watched by a total of 123,736 fans inside the stadium.

Australia clinched the three-match series against New Zealand after claiming a tense three-wicket win over the tourists.

Australian skipper Smith said that the whole Test match was a great innovation and it was absolutely amazing to get 120,000 people through the gates in three days, Sport24 reported.

Kiwi counterpart McCullum, who was equally excited by the concept, said that it is a great concept.

He added that the new concept definitely brought a different element but at the same time, it has certainly asked some different questions.

Chasing a target of 187 on Sunday, Australia lost seven wickets on day three before they crossed the victory line as Trent Boult returned to form in a superb fashion by claiming a five-wicket haul with the pink ball in their second innings.
