Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Saturday met farmers affected by unseasonal rains in Bhandwa village in Haryana's Bhiwani District.
The farmers had earlier said that they were happy to see her hearing their woes.
"Today, Soniaji is coming to assess the damage here. We are very happy that she is trying to hear us. We will present her a charter. We are suffering losses of around Rs.28,000 per acre. We are expecting that she will become our voice in the Parliament and help us recover our losses," said a farmer.
"We are expecting a lot from her. Once she raises her voice, we may get compensated," said another farmer, Rajkumar.
Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh is also visiting Maharashtra today to take an extensive tour of areas affected by heavy rains and hailstorms. He is being accompanied by a team of senior officials of his ministry as well as state government officials.
