Congress President Sonia Gandhi has welcomed government's decision to honour former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and late freedom fighter and educationist Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya with Bharat Ratna.
The announcement comes a day before the birthday of Vajpayee, who is popular across all party lines.
Yesterday, several top Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders had called on Vajpayee at his residence in Delhi.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had earlier this month declared that ' Good Governance Day' will be observed on Vajpayee's birthday.
